West Bromwich Albion spent eight of the nine seasons in the Premier League, 2010/11 to 2017/18; 2009/10 was outside it. They played City 16 times, lost 15 and drew one: a 0–0 at home on Boxing Day 2011. One point in eight seasons.
That record costs West Brom next to nothing here. Take City out and the Boxing Day point is all that comes off. In every other season they keep every point, and the table rearranges itself around them.
Twice it moves a long way. In 2010/11 they go from 11th to 8th, and in 2013/14 from 17th to 14th: each time two places beyond the free place, the one every club below City gets. In 2016/17, 10th becomes 8th, one place beyond it. None of it changes their fate.
The other seasons are City’s place and no more, except 2011/12, when the Boxing Day point cancels it: still 10th, one point lighter. Their best rebuilt finish comes in 2012/13, seventh of 19 on 49 points, the season Ferguson’s last game, on 19 May, finished 5–5 at West Brom.
