One season, two defeats, three players from City.

The nine seasons

Reading had one season in the Premier League in these nine, 2012/13, and eight outside it. Manchester City beat them 1–0 at City on 22 December and 2–0 at Reading on 14 May, so no points come off.

That leaves the rebuild little to do. 28 points, 19th for real, 18th of 19 without City: City’s place and nothing more. In a 19-club table three still go down, and 18th is one of them, eight points short of 16th. Wigan, Reading and QPR go down in both tables.

The money

Every deal between the clubs ran the same way, from City to Reading, and none carried a reported fee. Stuart Taylor arrived on a free transfer in the summer of 2012, for the Premier League season. Two more came while Reading were outside it: Wayne Bridge, also free, in the summer of 2013, and George Evans, for an undisclosed fee, in January 2016.

Counting only the Premier League season, as /transfers/ does, Reading’s spending with City is £0 in reported fees, with no undisclosed deals. City bought no one from Reading. For scale, Reading’s own figures on /transfers/ for that season: £0.6m in reported fees in, £0 out, and 7 undisclosed deals.
