Sixth in 2010/11. Still down in 2013/14.

Fulham spent five of these nine seasons in the Premier League and never beat City. Take City out and they climb twice beyond the free place, to sixth in 2010/11, but 2013/14 still ends in relegation, two points short.

The nine seasons

Fulham were in the Premier League for the first five of these nine seasons, 2009/10 to 2013/14, and outside it for the last four. In ten league games against Manchester City they drew three and lost seven. So they have little to give back: 3 points in all, never more than one in a season.

That makes the rebuilt table kind to them, in a small way. In three seasons they take the free place, City’s own, and nothing more. In 2009/10, the season Fulham reached their first European final and lost it 2–1 to Atlético Madrid after extra time in Hamburg, 12th becomes 11th. In 2011/12, 9th on 52 becomes 8th on 51, level on points with Liverpool. In two seasons they climb one place beyond the free place: 2010/11, and 2012/13, when two defeats by City cost nothing and 43 points make them 10th, not 12th.

No fate changes. The relegation of 2013/14 stands.

2010/11

Sixth, past Everton

The only point Fulham took off City that season was the 1–1 at City in February; the 4–1 home defeat in November had earned nothing. Everton lose six points against City. So Fulham go from 8th on 49 to 6th on 48, level with Everton and ahead on goal difference, +9 to +4. Two places: one is City’s, the other Everton’s.

It is Fulham’s best rebuilt finish of the nine seasons.

2013/14

Two points short

Beaten 4–2 at home and 5–0 away by City, Fulham lose no points. They finish 18th of 19 on 32, level with Norwich, who are 17th on goal difference, and two points short of 16th. The bottom three is unchanged: Norwich, Fulham and Cardiff.

The money

City bought no player from Fulham while Fulham were in the Premier League, so the club’s Premier League figures carry no City money. The one sale came after: Patrick Roberts, in summer 2015, for a reported £12.0m, while Fulham were outside the Premier League. It sits outside the club’s Premier League figures and outside the £315.5m City paid Premier League clubs.

The money City paid is the one figure here that isn’t a guess: take City out and that £12.0m goes too. Seko Fofana also came to Fulham on loan from City, in January 2015, in the same years outside the Premier League.
